  This looks correct. As long as "$set" is a symlink to
".real.$set:XXXXXX"
then there shouldn't be any issue.
  Are you sure you're using the binaries from the new s6-rc version?

  If it's the case, please take an strace of the first command that
fails: "strace -vf -s256 -- s6 set commit", pastebin it somewhere, and
send me the link.

  Thanks for your help! this change was really difficult to test, so
there certainly are some bugs that went through.
